S질량 보존의 법칙

단수주어+단수동사 (N + Vs)
복수주어+복수동사 (Ns + V)

명사는 “-s”가 있으면 “복수”, 동사는 “-s”가 있으면 단수 (이 법칙을 수 일치라고 함)

1. 주어 + 거품 + 동사

 

1) 주어 + 부사 + 동사
John usually (arrive / arrives) early for meetings.

 - 3인칭 단수 주어가 왔으므로 복수동사
Connor Industries frequently (update / updates) its software systems.

 - 고유명사가 주어로 오면 단수 취급

2) 주어 + 전치사구 + 동사
The employees at the branch office (analyze / analyzes) customer feedback every month.

The students in the laboratory (have / has) conducted experiments for 6 months.

 - 전치사구의 명사를 주어로 착각하면 안됨

3) 주어 + 분사구 + 동사
The seminar held last month (have / has) been acclaimed for its insightful presentation.

The participants attending the job fair (was / were) actively engaged in group discussions.

 - 분사구 걷어내주기

4) 주어 + 관계절 + 동사
The skills I could learn at the class (was / were) invaluable.
The newly hired CEO, who *has worked for more than a decade, (play / plays) an important role in the company’s strategic planning.

 *주격 관계대명사 뒤에 쓰는 동사는 선행사에 수일치

 

 

 

 

2. 무조건 동사원형 자리

 

1) 조동사 + 동사원형
As of next month, Mr. Cameron will (oversee / oversees) the upcoming project.

The budget report will (be / is) submitted by the end of this week.

 - 조동사(can, should, may, must...) 뒤에는 동사 원형

2) Please + 동사원형
Please (confirm / confirms / confirmed) your attendance for the conference by Friday.
Please (review / reviews / reviewed) the presentation slides before the meeting tomorrow.

 

 

 

3. 무조건 단수동사

 

단수명사
The new smartphone model (is / are) available in white and black.

불가산명사
All equipment (have / has) been thoroughly inspected and tested.

to부정사구
To follow the company’s policies (are / is) essential.

동명사구
Sharing regular updates (enhance / enhances) communication within the team.

that절
That the company’s profits exceeded expectations (was / were) surprising.
